I sure do like those Christmas cookies, sugar!

The night before Christmas Cookies

Twas the day before Christmas, when on the plantation
The family was happy, there was not one frustration
The elf on the shelf sat grinning with glee
Watching presents resting under the green Christmas Tree

The children were good this Christmas year
And ready for Santa and all his reindeer
But there was one task still yet to be done
The baking of sugar cookies had not even begun!

Rolling pin in my hand and a smile on my face
Mama and I set out to clear the space
Santas and snowmen, trees, and stars
We roll and we cut those cookies of ours.

Into the oven the cookies they went
Baked to perfection, eight minutes were spent
Each batch came out glowing and smelling so sweet
We just couldn’t wait to have cookies to eat!

With a whirl of a mixer, sugar, and cream
We whipped up the frosting from scratch–so supreme!
Icing, sprinkles, food color, and love
Frosted sugar cookies for Santa, cookies all were proud of!

One last task remained, after nibbling a bit
To share the cookies, in the Christmas spirit!
A tray for our family, trays for our friends
And of course the big plate for Mr. Claus in the den!

With full hearts and bellies, we headed to bed
Ready for morning, but one thing left to be said
Happy Christmas everybody–those near and so far!
We love you and miss you wherever you are!

Seriously, y’all…

We make the BEST sugar cookies. It takes practice and love. And they do make for lots of Christmas smiles. Looking for the recipe? You can find it in my old post the “Best Christmas Sugar Cookies.” My Grandma knew what she was doing!

This is how they look out of the oven:

And then when they are frosted:

YUM! What are your favorite type of Christmas cookie?

Yum! I love sugar cookies. I’m not patient enough to make them, though.

Yes, they do require LOTS of patience. Though if I get cranky I roll the dough back up and will wait and try again later. It’s like the dough *knows* when you get impatient!
