A Case of the Cameron Fryes

Cameron Frye.

You may remember him. If you don’t live in a bubble, that is. And have seen the amazing 1980s flick Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

He’s Ferris’s gawky best friend.  The grumpy one who doesn’t ever want to get out of bed in the morning.

Ferris describes Cameron as his overly depressive best friend who is the only person he knows who actually feels BETTER when he is sick. Cameron is the worrier of the group, the “wound tightly” bestie, the indecisive one, the one who just a tad bit neurotic (and justifiably so, it turns out), the one who lacks back-bone.

And then I realized.

I’ve been acting like a CAMERON FRYE!

AHHHH!!!

Before Cameron decides to get out of his bed and join Ferris in his “day off.” He has a freak out in his car:

And I realized that, like Cameron, I’ve been torn by indecision for the last week. I’ve been wanting to stay in bed, curled up, and kind of just avoid everything humanly possible. It hasn’t helped that it’s been a) cold b) now it’s rainy and c)I’ve had one of the busiest/most stressful work weeks of the entire year (but also the most fun!).

And I realized–no one else was holding me back. I’ve just been acting like a Cameron and WALLOWING and WORRYING instead of standing up and taking action.

But, like Cameron, it’s time to get out of my shell and stop doing what others WANT me to do and what I WANT to do that makes me happy.

Cameron watches his father’s prized 1961 Ferrari get DESTROYED and, following its demise, realizes (after a total and complete freak-out) that it’s time to get his priorities in-line.

As Cameron says, “I am not going to sit on my ass as the events that affect me unfold to determine the course of my life. I’m going to take a stand. I’m going to defend it. Right or wrong, I’m going to defend it. “

Are you stuck being a Cameron? Are you standing up for yourself and what makes you are HAPPY?

Or do you need a little shove to get yourself into action?

As Ferris says, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Don’t miss it. Get out there and do what’s best for you. Even on the days when you want to stay hidden under the covers like Cameron and just sleep all day. Figure out what’s the best way to experience YOUR life, so that you don’t miss all the great stuff in store for you!

Oh my goodness! I have been like that lately too! Sleeping in. Not doing much. Netflix > writing at this moment. I as well tend to shut myself in when it’s cold and rainy which it is here too. I however cannot add the horrible week. I really hope it’s getting better for you!

I do NOT want to let life pass me by. For the past year I have been working on not letting it do so and getting better. I still have some major strides to take. At least we are aware. And won’t give up until we get what we want! Great post! 🙂

What a great analogy! I love it! I wouldn’t have ever put two and two together but I definitely am being a Cameron too. Your blog post is both humorous and a wake up call at the same time.

Oh my.. it has been like that for me too until this week. I was slogging along like walking through thick pudding. Maybe there was something in the stars b/c we’ve snapped out of it!
