According to their facebook page Datz Dough is “Quirky and sweet with a touch of whimsy. Delicate pastries, donuts with the perfect crumb, a carefully selected variety of delicious edibles for breakfast, lunch and dessert – it will be the place you make a beeline for when cravings strike.”
Well, this gal’s craving hit.
They are a part of my childhood.
Every Saturday morning, my Daddy and I would head to our local coffee shop for cake doughnuts and milk (for me) and doughnuts and coffee (for him). The doughnuts would be freshly baked at 7 am. Hot, fluffy, sugary goodness. And I’m not talking about the Dunkin’ Donuts kind of doughnuts. These were real doughnuts. Made in small batches by Eddie, fried lightly to perfection, and sometimes topped with gooey chocolate and fun sprinkles for the little girl Lora. Amazing!
I miss those Saturday mornings.
But now I can have them back!
It may not be with Daddy (unless he comes to visit).
It may not be with a side of milk.
It may not be at 7 am in the morning.
But it WILL be fantastic, real, old-fashioned DOUGHNUTS!
I found childhood heaven on my very adult turf last week at Tampa’s Datz Dough.
Real cake doughnuts.
Fresh cake doughnuts.
Airy cake doughnuts.
Delectable cake doughnuts.
Here’s the inside of the cinnamon sugar doughnut. Do you see how light and flakey it is? Not stale, hard, or dense, like so many chain doughnuts.
|YUM! DATZ DOUGH-licious! 😉|
Datz Dough serves up old-fashioned delights in a modern environment for the person on the go or the person who just has a hungry belly for quality coffee and freshly made sweets.
Here’s a peak at the doughnut display:
You can bet I will be back to try that chocolate chocolate cake donought you see in the corner. And maybe all the others too! (SHHH! Don’t tell my trainer!)
Doughnut not your thang? Ain’t no thang, girlfriend! They have croissants, muffins, egg sandwiches, breads, cookies, cakes, and more! All freshly baked!
Check out the muffins:
As a baker myself, there is nothing I love better than another GOOD baker’s baked goods. And Datz Dough has them! I will be back again. And again. And again. And um… you get the picture.
If you can, I highly suggest you give Datz Dough a visit!
Sad because you are far away from these amazing doughnut and pastry delights? NEVER FEAR! No need to despair, because you can learn to make your OWN doughnuts at home. A friend of mine has launched the blog Monday Morning Donut. Every Monday, Misha makes a different type of delightful pastry that she sends to work with her husband–and blogs the successes and failures. She provides recipes, tutorials, pictures, reviews, and more! So give the site a peak and start to whip up your own amazing doughnuts!
