Gratitude

I am feeling overwhelmingly grateful.

Grateful for friends.
Grateful for family.
Grateful for my body.
Grateful for my life.

Utterly and completely grateful.

Car accidents are scary.

Super scary.

Last week, I was in a car accident.

Please don’t ask me over and over again what happened.

I don’t really know.

I was unconscious for most of it. (Dislocating your jaw will do that.)

But when I came to and stopped my car I was overwhelmed.

By how awesome everyone was.

The firefighters.
The EMTs.
The Emergency Room nurses and staff.
The Chaplain.
The guy I’m dating.
The friends.
The family.
The car rental lady.
The people in my building.
The yoga and running community.
My acupuncturist (!!!) and her staff.

Everyone has just been so awesome and amazing.

And I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. Literally. I started crying yesterday because I was just amazed by how NICE so many people were being. How lucky I am to have so many kind people in my life.

Car accidents put things in perspective y’all.

I’m super lucky. I’m injured (dislocated jaw, lung contusion, sprained cervical spine in neck, sprained rhomboid, tons of bruises and swollen all over), but I’m not injured, ya know?

I feel so blessed to be ok. So lucky to have such great people in my life. And just so entirely grateful to, you know, be alive and kicking.

There may be no running, swimming, biking, or yoga for a little while. But that will pass! Soon I will be back in action. And this accident will teach me so very much about my body, about recovery, and I will emerge an even better athlete for it.

Thank you to everyone. I am so grateful for you all.

I’ll keep you posted on my new training schedule, my recovering practice, and this new journey to get myself back to marathon ready. 🙂

Glad you are on the mend! Sounds very scary but it’s good to focus on all the positives like you are.

I hate car accidents. I had spinal surgery March 2012 because of an August 2011 accident and I still have anxiety when driving. I’m terrified of getting into another one.

I am glad that you are okay and I hope you heal quickly. YOU are amazing for having such a positive outlook on the experience.

I hadn’t realized your surgery was due to an accident! We will have to talk about it sometime. I’m still planning to teach my restorative yoga class on Sunday! It was super scary, but always best to be positive about life–we can’t control our circumstances but we can always control our attitude!
