My last run: running in the rain

So I just discovered a new area of the Running Bloggers google+ group, called “My Last Run.”
“My last run was, and it went…” starts the posting query. Well, I better answer the question, eh?

Well my last run was a 5k yesterday, and it went WET and SLOW. And by wet, I mean to say that we got SOAKED.

Yes, friends, I got stuck in a weird freak Florida storm wherein the sky is blue but rain is pouring down. By about mile 2 the rain stopped and we reached completely dry land where the rain had never fallen at all.

Can I just tell you that I don’t understand Florida weather?

But it was my first real run after hurting my hip. We ran slow–around 10:30/mile–and I went with a friend who is recovering from an ankle injury. Add in extra caution from the storm and it was an “eh” run.  I think I will be back to normal by the weekend!  *fingers crossed*

The best part of the run was doing handstatnds pre-run and pre-rain.  It was the second day of the #inversionaday challenge.  Handstand kick-ups at the wall make for a fun and quick dynamic warm-up!

Here I am:

What fun!

Have you ever tried a unique dynamic warm-up to get ready to run? What do you do when you suddenly find yourself soaked on a run? Do you keep running and laugh it off (what I did) or do you head home?

I ALWAYS do some form of Mobility work prior to my run, maybe not kick ups though. Now, from that handstand position, do push-ups.

Don’t think my arms will hold my weight, fully inverted like that, but I’ll give it a try next time. It’s mostly cold and windy when it rains here so I stay indoors.

With practice you could do it! ๐Ÿ™‚ And brr–I hate cold and windy runs! We don’t get too many of the cold runs here in Florida!

As long as it is not really windy or cold a rainy run can be kind of fun. don;t think I would like to run in the rain a lot though! My first marathon was in the rain except for the last 3 miles. Finished though! ๐Ÿ˜‰
