5 Morning Rituals for Happiness
I love mornings. Not the mornings when I have to be at the airport (or a race) by 7 am. But weekend mornings? My favorite! I like to be lazy and ease into my day… And even on weekdays, I try to get up a little early for some extra Lora-time to get the day going. What’s your morning ritual?
They say that how you start your morning sets the tone for your ENTIRE day! How do you kick the morning off right?
Here’s my morning rituals for happiness:
1) Express gratitude
Acknowledge all the great stuff in your life! I take a quick moment to express my gratitude for all that I have. It helps me start the day with a smile on the inside–which will only translate to the outside as the day progresses. 🙂
2) Journaling with three “morning pages”
In my first summer of acting training at the Atlantic Acting School, I was told to read Julia Cameron’s the Artist Way. Julia suggests you write morning pages, 3 pages of stream-of-consciousness writing. You never re-read them. Since May of 2004, I have written morning pages nearly every day. That’s a decade of journaling! And I have NEVER once re-read them. I just put the coffee on to brew, sit down and write, and then put the journal away until the next morning.
3) Coffee! 🙂
I don’t need coffee (I actually successfully gave it up as a part of a cleanse earlier this summer), but I loooooovvvveee coffee. Give me a cup of quality coffee (black) and I’m a happy camper.
4) Breakfast is the most important meal of the day–eat up buttercup!
Seriously. Eat something healthy for breakfast. Even if you HATE breakfast. Eat something. Even if it is just a banana. But please. Eat something!
I may hit a yoga class. I may go for a run. Or I may just do a couple stretches on my own. But I try to move a little bit every morning to get my body in motion and feeling good.
