Dance in the rain!
Sometimes the holidays are filled with storms and rain. Things never go perfectly like they do in your head. Maybe all your sugar cookies refuse to roll. Maybe it literally rains on the Christmas parade. Maybe you get sick, or have to work late, or lose your best client. There’s no way to predict what will happen during this most stressful time of the season. And you can’t control everything.
So what do you do?
I recently went to the beach for a scheduled beach promotional shoot with my amazing photographer Ashlee Hamon. And you know what happened? It got misty. It got rainy. It got just plain gross out.
And we danced anyway.
We embraced the fog. We embraced the rain. And we got out and played in it and used it to our advantage. Sure, we never got any shots of me in the swimsuit in the water (omgeee I would have frozen), but we found some incredible spots anyway. We improvised. We wandered through beautiful weeds and walked through fog that seemed out of place in Florida. I never could have predicted the journey. And it turned out to be pretty awesome!
We laughed. We smiled. We got a little stressed out, sure. But we discovered some beautiful things regardless.
So this busy holiday season I challenge you. Instead of giving into stress. Instead of trying to force everything to go your way. Just let it be what it is.
Things never go the way you want them to in your head. That’s why we practice yoga. That’s why we constantly grow. To learn to navigate and breathe through the bumps in the road. And experience them for all that they are. The good with the bad.
So no matter how hectic or crazy your holidays get. Be with it. Embrace it fully. Stay present in each and every moment. In each and every feeling. Because that’s when the magic happen.
Real life doesn’t follow a set schedule or plan. Our everyday life is constantly evolving, constantly shifting, constantly changing. But it’s up to us to embrace it. To feel that everything is happening FOR us, not to us. To be with whatever is happening (the good and the bad) and see if we can’t be more comfortable with it. To find the joy in all the little moments, even when they seem like they really really suck.
Because that’s when you dance in the rain.
And then the storm stops.
And you’re just dancing.

Let’s dance through this holiday season. The chaos, the best laid plans that fail, the wonderful joyful moments, and the ho-hum just average doldrums. Let’s dance through them all and fully experience them, whatever they may be. And, when possible, see if you can’t have a little more fun. See if you can’t embrace everything that’s happening. When something goes wrong, it’s okay to get upset, it’s okay to get angry or be frustrated. But then turn incident around. Turn it into something amazing. Start to dance in the rain.
What do you say?
