Give Presence

Give Presence.

That’s the theme for my yoga event tonight, inspired by a fantastic piece of artwork that has been installed at The Gallery in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida.

It’s so hard for us to be PRESENT with what we are actually doing.

We jump to the future. We jump to the past. We play on our smart-phones and tablets. We worry about anything and everything. We get distracted.

But we need to be HERE.

To love, to feel, to be compassionate and successful human beings.

We need to be in the now.

We need to give our full attention to the task at hand.

We need to stop worrying so dang much! (If you have problems worrying, I suggest you check out the past blog post for tips to turn that worrying into positive action!)

Real listening, real conversation, real engagement involves MENTALLY disengaging from the swirl of thoughts that go through your brain and putting ALL your focus–mental, physical, and emotional–on the person speaking and really HEARING what he or she is saying to you.

As you spend time with those who are close to you, remind yourself to be fully with them. Silence your cell phones. Put them away.  Definitely put them away if you are in yoga class!!

But focus on the activity at hand. Focus on the person in front of you, even if that person is just you.

Be present.

Be attentive.

Be here now.

Feel whatever is going on at the moment that it is going on.

And then act accordingly. From that place of the present moment.

It may not always be enjoyable. Sometimes the present moment sucks. But sometimes it is also a truly beautiful and amazing thing.

So embrace it.

Dive into the now.

And experience the difference the present moment makes.

    Sooooo true. I try to practice this every single day, and it’s not easy. Thanks for the reminder, Lora!
