5 Steps To A Greener You!

I’m from the generation that grew up with the original Captain Planet. We sang songs about recycling in my kindergarten class, made compost in preschool, and played fun games about turning off the water when you brush your teeth.

As a “grown-up,” I strive to find easy ways to continually be eco-conscious in my daily life. I may no longer have a compost heap, but I do strive to take positive steps for the environment each and every day. Sorry Kermit, but it CAN be easy being green! ๐Ÿ˜€

Here’s how:

1) Use Recycled Batteries

It’s easy! I use batteries every day and it makes me feel good to know that I can now use batteries that provide guilt-free energy! Plus, that leads to positive energy for you and the world!

I use the brand-new Energizer EcoAdvanced batteries–the first batteries on the market that use recycled materials! They come in AAย  and AAA. I use portable speakers for many of my yoga classes and, as such, can go through an AWFUL lot of batteries as we yoga and jam to fun tunes. Now, I don’t feel so guilty when I change the batteries every week! (Plus, thanks to Energizer’s long-life these batteries also last longer than average batteries, making me have to change them less!)

You can find these new EcoAdvanced batteries at your local Walmart. My store had an easy-to-find display!

How cool is it that you can help the environment AND use all your gadgets and appliances? It sure makes me feel better that I’m heading to yoga classes with batteries in my portable speaker that helps the environment. And that definitely makes for an even better yoga class! Thanks Energizer for #BringingInnovation!

2) Collapsible, Refillable, Eco-Friendly Water Bottles

I keep a collapsible Ohyo water bottle in my bag at all times! Did you know that Americans used 50 billion water bottles last year? Holy cow! Keep an Ohyo in your purse or pocket. Not only can you help save the planet, but you’ll also save money!

3) Le Tote Clothing Service

I love new clothes, but it’s not good to be CONSTANTLY buying new clothes. (From a monetary and eco-friendly standpoint.) That’s why I belong to Le Tote! What is Le Tote? It’s pretty much the Netflix of fashion. They send you clothes, you wear them, you send them back and then the process starts all over again!

For example, I spent a lot of this winter in Florida. Not exactly freezing. But I *love* winter clothes! Thanks to Le Tote I was able to wear this ADORABLE sweater. And when I was done and ready for warmer weather clothes? I sent it on back and traded it in for something new! Cool, cost-effective, and an easy way to be a little greener–and a little more fashionable, all at the same time!!

4) Intentionally buy Goods That Give Back

lora-hogan-jade-yogaBuy goods that do good.

For example, I use a Jade Yoga mat; it’s made from sustainably in the US from natural rubber. Plus, for every mat you buy they plant a tree! Om…yeah!

I also proudly wear a We-Wood Watch, which is made from sustainable wood. Like Jade, We-Wood plants a tree for every watch you purchase! And you look pretty styling! My favorite Juil sandals (shown above) are even made using vegetable dyes! You’ll be surprised how many brands help the planet and use natural alternatives nowadays!

5) Make Your Own Cleaner

I mix 2/3 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup water, and a ton of drops of lemon essential oil (just eyeball it till it smells good to you) together for a natural cleaner for my sinks, shower, counter tops, etc.ย  You can put it in a spray bottle and squirt to your heart’s content. You can also use a rag or sponge and dip in the solution for tough cleaning jobs, such as mold or mildew! Also, lemon essential oil is known to lift your spirits–so you’ll also feel happier about cleaning! ๐Ÿ˜€

I love this blog post Lora. Doing what we can for the planet is really important. I was just thinking of purchasing rechargeable batteries two days ago. They are now on my list! I’m going to check out Le Tote. What a cool concept. I love my Jade mat and encourage my yoga students to purchase Eco-friendly mats as well. Thanks for a great blog post! ๐Ÿ™‚

Great info!! I did not realize the number of water bottles we used was so staggering! We try very hard to always use our re-usable bottles, but sometimes the regular ones find their way in. #client
