How to have safe long runs (+ Giveaway)

Disclaimer: This post has been sponsored by Swift-n-Snug. All opinions are my own.

Y’all know I’m a runner. And I love LONG distance runs.

But I run alone a lot.

Which means I always pay attention to SAFETY first.

Here’s how I make sure I have long SAFE runs year-round:

1) Wear a quality running belt

No one said fanny-packs are sexy, but fanny-packs to prevent you from getting injured, dehydrated, or having your keys go flying due to your pace, sweat, or bad weather. I’m modeling a Swift-n-Snug belt, which can fit an awful lot! (And has a battery to help you glow in the dark.)

2) Always travel with your cell phone

I keep mine inside my running belt. On long runs or very hot days, I always make sure to put the phone inside a plastic bag for safety. You may prefer an armband. Do what makes you happy! But make sure you have a phone and that you have an ICE (in case of emergency) contact saved! The Swift-n-Snug will hold your iphone6–perfect for safety!

3) Carry cash

Because you could fall down and need to take a cab home. Or need to buy a bottle of water somewhere or pay to go to a coffeeshop to use their restroom.

4) Keep proper fuel on you and know where the water lives

I know where ALL the water fountains are on my long routes. I also travel with my PORBAR bolts inside my running belt to sustain me on the long miles! (Psst! There’s a PROBAR giveaway happening on the blog!)

5) Make sure you are visible!!

Wear bright shorts, a hat, or something to help you stand out! I also love the Swift-n-Snug running belt because it has a LED battery on the front. It’s a little heavier than most belts as a result, but you can punch a button and light the road ahead of you. This light not only can help shine a little light on your running path, but it also makes sure that cars, pedestrians, bikes, etc. will all SEE YOU running down the street!

I recommend the Swift-n-Snug belt for it’s light capabilities! Watch a quick testimonial (unscripted) from me:

This is great advice! I always carry my phone with me to be safe and have a few different fanny pack type things that I use to do that. It’s so important!

I’ve been looking at different running belts since the gasparilla health expo! My main concern is the whole flopping up and down while I ran. I’m glad to hear this one didn’t move!!! Love the video! 🙂

I love the idea of bringing a little light with you on the run. Great for safety and convenience. I am terrible about taking everything I should have with me. Mace, phone, id, money, whatever. Something always gets left behind and it’s bound to bite me one of these days. This little belt would be a life saver!
