Play On: How to stay active on your period

I’m # FitToPlay thanks to Playtex® Sport®  and # CollectiveBias.

“Moon Time.”

“Time of the month.”

“Surfing the crimson wave.”

Whatever you call it. If you’re a lady, it’s in your life.

And we, as a culture, often get the squiggles around it.

And that’s just silly.

It’s time to embrace all the parts of being a lady.

And play on–no matter the time of the month!

Let me just start by saying that, as a yoga teacher and an endurance runner, I *never* let my periods get in the way of my fitness.

They’re good things to have ladies! It shows that you are healthy!

And yes…they happen once a month. So it’s time to embrace the crimson wave and stay active every day of the month!

Here are my three GO TO TIPS to stay fit, happy, and active when you are on your period!

Yes, to feel confident on your period you must first feel confident on the inside.

And that starts with a quality Tampon and liner. Because when you want to run the miles, you have to have a tampon that will take you through all the miles–with no problems!

I use Playtex® Sport® .

And, yes, extras slide in my running belt, along with my phone, PROBAR chews, etc! (Because you should always be prepared.)

Why do I chose Playtex® Sport® ?

Because it works. It helps me go the miles on the pavement, ride it out in spin class, and visit my downward dog on the yoga mat. These babies get me everywhere I need to go! (And stay comfortable–no leaks, smells, or anything else of the icky variety interfering!)

That’s exactly what I need to stay being ME every day of the month.

The new Playtex® Sport®  combo pack is available at Walmart.

Playtex® Sport® just got better and comes in a combo pack with liners and pads at your local Walmart. There should be an end display (shown above) to help you find these new products!

NEW! Playtex® Sport® now available in Pads, Liners and Combo Packs at Walmart! Now Sport Level Protection™ pads, liners and combo packs with Flexfit™ design to twist and turn with your body. Don’t let your period get in the way. PlayOn!

I personally use the Playtex® Sport® Combo Pack – Tampons and Liners in 48 count (28 Tampons and 20 Liners), but you may be a pad gal and prefer to get the Playtex® Sport® Combo Pack – Pads and Liners  in 32 count (18 Tampons and 14 Pads). You also can buy the tampons, liners, and Playtex® Sport® Ultra-Thin Pad with Wings individually! (Great if you run out of only one thing.)

Buy, use, and stay busy and active!

2) Balance Your Energy With Yoga

Although I may run a storm on all days of my cycle, I tend to take a more relaxed yoga practice during the first day or two.

My go to poses on heavy flow days?

Supported Fish:

Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose:

And gentle forward folds and hip-openers, such as butterfly pose:

It’s so tempting to have that extra brownie. Or to eat a donut for breakfast. Stay healthy, stick to your routine, and make sure you get enough rest, so that you can stay living your busy life EVERY day of the month!

For me? That means I have extra eggs and healthy fats like avocado to start my day. (And I add some Siracha because, you know, Siracha makes everything better!)

MMM! Avocado! (Avocados are also said to help reduce PMS and Menstruation symptoms. Good to know!)

What do you do to keep going strong and stay #FitToPlay on your period? Do you still run? Do you feel confident and comfortable to roll out your yoga mat? Let me know your go-to period habits in the comments below!

I love this! I don’t think we talk enough about how to handle your menstruation cycle when you live an active life. I personally am so irregular that I have to be prepared at all times. And like you I use the Sports tampons. They make such a difference.

When my daughter was a distance runner, she only trusted sport tampons! I also pair them with Dear Kate panties, just in case.

Good blog post…this is definitely an issue for athletes and with my triathlon training, Playtex Sports is the best for swimming. I feel much better and more confident. Thanks for posting and glad you find healthy activities every day no matter what time of the month.
