What to do when you’re feeling overwhelmed

overwhlemed

AHHH.

That feeling.

The long to-do list.

The messy kitchen.

The work piling up.

So many things you are supposed to be doing.

But can’t seem to get anything done.

Netflix calls to you.

Your heartbeat quickens just THINKING about everything you need to do.

And yet.

You can’t even figure out where to begin.

What to do.

There is so much. Too much.

It seems impossible to to start. Too daunting.

You can’t even figure out WHERE to begin.

And everyone is telling you, GO GO GO!

But you can’t.

Because you are feeling that awful feeling.

You are OVERWHELMED.

Question: What do you do when you are feeling overwhelmed?

Answer: Do absolutely nothing!!

That’s right my friends. I am telling you to do nothing.

Not watch Netflix.

Not take a nap.

Do nothing.

Find stillness.

When you are feeling overwhelmed the best thing to do is slow down.

Go for a walk if you need to move. Sit in meditation. Maybe free-write in your journal.

But don’t try to get any work done. Don’t try to push ahead.
Sit with the feelings.

Because when we sit. When we DO NOTHING. That’s when the clarity will come.

So roll out your yoga mat for an extended time in child’s pose. Find a meditation class. Go sit on that park bench down the street.

But whatever you do….

TAKE A BREAK.

DO NOT TRY TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS.

Sit with what is and the resolution will come. Clarity comes in quiet.

And wait.

Wait for the answers to come.

Eventually. Eventually you will be stirred to know what to do next.

Motion will come from your stillness. The path to take will become clear.

Let the path reveal itself to you.

Do nothing and you will no longer be drowning in feelings anxiety, chaos, stress. Do nothing and you will suddenly swim further ahead.

When you sit in stillness the answers come. When you sit in stillness you let your body and mind reconnect to your sense of self.

Let your soul do the work.

Find your priorities by slowing down.

Stop the busy. Stop the stress. Stop the feeling completely overwhelmed.

Just stop.

And suddenly your life will get a whole lot clearer. A whole lot easier. A whole lot happier.

Can you be courageous enough to sit with what is? To take pause? To drink in the silence of nothingness?

Give it a shot.

Let me know how it goes.

xoxo,

Lora

Okay, I’ll try this stillness thing, but I’m pretty sure the idea of sitting still scares me more than anything on the planet. haha

Excellent article! I have been overwhelmed with things lately…good things, but still overwhelming. Trying to figure out how to get it all done, and I must admit that doing nothing (which is so hard for me) really does help!

This message is so hard for me to receive because I am totally the opposite – I go into hyper productive problem solving mode which often means I shoot myself in the foot with worry and frustration. I totally need to take heed of this more often.

I really needed this today. Things are so crazy right now and I know I need to just sit with it rather than try to control.
