Yoga Poses to Help You Get Warm

Brrr! Is that a chill in the air I feel?

It’s getting to the time of year when we need to create a bit more internal heat!
Down here in Florida we have it easy–I can pretty much run year round. But days like today when it’s a HUMID 39 degrees. It can send me to my yoga mat for a vigorous practice.

I have a confession to make y’all….

I am tired of traditional sun salutations. Sun Salute “A” and Sun Salute “B” and your standard garden variety vinyasas.

You may think I’m crazy as a result. Maybe you’re a salutation junkie.

But I need new ways to create some heat in my practice.

Here’s a few ways I get my body moving and my heart rate pumping, without ever practicing a traditional vinyasa!

1) Handstands

Jump up. Jump back down. Jump up with other leg. Jump back down. Repeat. Hold when you’d like. Repeat.

Tell me kicking up into handstand over and over doesn’t get your heart rate pumping?



2) Core Work–especially core arm balances

Because they are so much fun!



And you can always stick with side plank or crow pose as a beginner!


3) Standing Flows

Standing twists, seated twists, reclined twist. Let’s twist again….Plus, did you know that twists are good for digestion? Hint hint: Best thing to do after that big Thanksgiving dinner!!

5) Give in to the chill and use the time to REST and RELAX in seated meditation

Just had hot chocolate? Fingers going numb? Or just feeling overwhelmed by your holiday to-do list?

Forget the hard yoga. Forget the intensity. Just sit down and get grounded and connected to your breath in seated meditation.
